My family evacuated from Mandeville, LA on Friday to Pine Prairie (just south of Alexandria). Word to the wise: When you are evacuating from a hurricane don't go right into the path of the eye of the storm. After some rough weather we are doing well, living on a generator and still getting bad weather. Two people died early this morning from a tornado that hit nearby. We are still having tornado watches/warnings in the area from the outer bands of the hurricane. Will this thing PLEASE move on? It's lingering. And the sopping wet ground can't take much more wind. I want to go home. And move on with life.
All in all, so far, so good. I had a cold shower this morning and I am feeling much better. There is much to be done.
An excerpt from Entergy:
"Current Outages
• Gustav continues causing new outages in the Entergy system. As of 5 a.m., outages increased overnight in Arkansas due to high winds from the storm.
Louisiana Total 742,832
Louisiana/Mississippi Restoration Progress
• In terms of power outages, Hurricane Gustav is the second worst in Entergy’s 95-year history, peaking at about 850,000 early Tuesday – the overwhelming majority of them in Louisiana. That easily bypassed the 800,000 outages in Hurricane Rita in 2005. The only larger number of Entergy outages was 1.1 million in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, which has been described as one of the worst natural disasters in American history."
